The art of sending a handwritten note
Whether you're sending a note of gratitude, sympathy, or love, there is still no better way to express a sentiment than by putting pen to paper and writing a personalized note in your own handwriting. Far more intimate than an email or a phone call, a handwritten note — especially on personalized stationery — conveys a tone that is easily lost through digital communication.
Throughout centuries, people have saved and cherished letters and notes written to them by loved ones. When is the last time you went to a museum and saw an email on display? Paper ephemera is often the thing most grabbed during a fire or kept throughout many different moves. We've all kept a cherished note or letter at least once in our lives. While we probably have trouble remembering texts or emails, the process of writing a note on paper makes it memorable.
What makes letterpress note cards different from ordinary stationery?
Letterpress note cards combine vintage printing techniques with modern materials — deep impression, tactile texture, and metallic foils create stationery that is as beautiful as it is meaningful.
Personalized stationery goes much farther than the traditional monogrammed note cards that have been de rigueur for the last century. Note cards — flat or folded — are still the most personal way to let someone know you're thinking of them. By combining vintage printing methods such as letterpress with more modern techniques and materials such as metallic or holographic foils, we work with designers to create stationery that rewards the recipient's attention.
Flat note cards
A flat note card with a deep letterpress impression is a wonderful medium on which to send a handwritten message. Available in several standard sizes — all fitting coordinating envelopes — with optional envelope liners, foil stamping, or blind debossing.
Folded note cards
A folding card offers more design freedom and a much larger writing area. Using a creasing die, the fold on each card is exact and uniform. The two most popular sizes are A2 (4.25×5.5 in folded) and A7 (5×7 in folded). A quality folding note card often becomes a keepsake.
Post cards
A new twist on an old classic. Fun and personalized postcards are a fantastic way to drop a note in the mail in a less formal way. By using two different papers for front and back — duplexing — or combining different printing techniques, postcards are a charming way to keep in touch with friends, family, and clients. More practical for business correspondence, but a quick handwritten note on a personalized card makes a real impression.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is the minimum order quantity for letterpress note cards?
Our minimum is typically 25–50 cards per design, depending on the techniques involved. Letterpress has setup costs (plate making, makeready) that make very small quantities expensive per card — larger quantities give better per-card value. We'll provide a quote at your requested quantity.
-
Can I order note cards for personal use, not just business?
Absolutely. Personal monogram stationery, social cards, and note cards for individual use are a big part of what we do. If you have a design in mind — or just an idea — we can help develop it into a finished piece.
-
What paper is used for letterpress note cards?
Crane's Lettra cotton paper is the most popular choice for note cards — it takes a deep impression and has a beautiful, soft feel. We also work with Colorplan, Gmund, handmade papers, and hundreds of other options. The paper choice is one of the most enjoyable parts of the ordering process.
